What Dreams May Come

September 7, 2008

Amelia Mae’s work resonates with me for a number of reasons. First, she’s a paper artist who creates beautiful silhouettes and collages. Secondly, her illustrations contain emo sentiments that might have crossed my mind once, twice, or a thousand times. (Who doesn’t fall for the singer/songwriter type?) Last, but by no means least, she’s found a way to combine her love of art with philanthropy; all profits from Project 8256 are split between a family member’s fund to adopt a child from Ethopia and an Ethiopian orghanage that cares for HIV+ children. After seeing We Are Together a few weekends ago, I immediately wanted to book a flight to South Africa to volunteer at the Agape orphanage. It will take more planning, but volunteering abroad is still one of my top priorities.

Also, exciting news: Amy’s sister and brother-in-law were approved to adopt two siblings from Ethiopia! (Congratulations!) To celebrate all prints in the Project 8256 shop are “buy two get one free” for the month of September.
